Says Bhagat Kabir: Don't take pride...

While doing paath, these four saloks of Kabir jee stood out. All four saloks start with the same words -

ਗਰਬੁ means Hankaar or pride.

Using their Mohar Bhagat jee is stating, don't do Hankaar because of your body. Bodies of kings who used to ride beautiful horses, were eventually buried in Earth.

Don't do Hankaar because of your big house or mansion. Today or tomorrow, your body will have to lie down under Earth and grass will grow over the land above it.

Don't do Hankaar and make fun when you see a poor or destitute (Rank) person. Your life is like a boat in ocean; who knows what will happen to it.

This is a very important hukam from Guru Sahib. Big people become destitute and little men become big men. This happens all the time. Gianis (knowledgeable ones) realize this and stay humble and don't make big claims. There is an interesting story of a Mahapurakh who often used by pass by a house of a prostitute. This prostitute was very vulgar and had no fear of Vaheguru. She used to mock the Mahapurakh by asking him if his beard was better or the tail of a dog

The Mahapurakh had tamed anger and ego. He just used to smile and move on. Some time later, when this Mahapurakh was about to leave this world and was on deathbed,he hurriedly asked one of his followers to go and call the Veshva (prostitute). Upon her arrival, the Mahapurakh told her that today he can surely say that his beard is better than her dog's tail. The Veshva was surprised beyond belief, apologised and asked him why he took so long to respond. The Mahapurakh said that at that time, he still had years to live and did not know what would become of him. He did not want to make any claim but today since he is about to leave this world and now can respond to her question.

From this pankiti, we learn that we should not mock anyone and not make any tall claims about ourselves.

Don't do Hankaar looking at the beautiful colour of your body. Today or tomorrow you are going to leave this body just as a snake sheds its skin regularly.

May we follow the hukams of Gurbani and make our life successful.
