Amritsar, December 17
The Arab-Islamic country, Dubai, has come forward to allow the Sikh community to establish a splendid gurdwara building on the 2,600 square yard prime land with a view to send the message across that other faiths are also given freedom in the country. This is despite the fact that official religion of the United Arab Emirates is Islam.

The government of Dubai has already passed the map for the gurdwara, the construction of which will be started from the New Year. The Sikh sangat from Dubai has invited Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti and Avtar Singh, Jathedar, Akal Takht, and SGPC, respectively, to lay the foundation stone of the gurdwara. The construction of the new gurdwara will help more than 2.5 lakh Sikhs living in the Islamic country to practise their religion without fear.

This was disclosed by Surinder Singh Kandhari, an affluent Sikh from Dubai, who donated two imported battery-operated floor scrubbing machines worth Rs 20 lakh to the Golden Temple here today.

These floor scrubbing machines cover a phenomenal area coverage of 4,500 sq /m per hour. These scrubber driers shall scrub and dry simultaneously and leaves the Parkarma floors sparkling clean. After installation of two chappati-making machines in the Guru Ram Dass Langar Hall, this is the second attempt to use hi-tech machines for the Golden Temple. Earlier, the SGPC executive had decided to install security cameras in the Darbar Sahib complex .

It may be mentioned here that the first Sikh shrine, Gurdwara Singh Sabha, was founded in 1975 in Dubai when the population of the Sikh community was only 10,000. However, the second gurdwara will be palatial and the Sikh sangat of Dubai has come forward to give liberal donations for the purpose. Kandhari said the building of the gurdwara would be completed within a record time of 18 months .

Jathedar Vedanti lauded the contribution and devotion of the Kandhari family towards Sikhism . He said in the present era of globalization, the introduction of high-technology could not be ignored.Members of the Kandhari family were honoured with “siropas” on the occasion .

It may be mentioned here that Dubai had allowed the construction of two Hindu temples, including a Shiva and Krishna temples, both located in Burdubai.

I have visited this site on Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji's prakash utsav celebrations last year. It felt so proud to see sign boards on the roads with Khanda and inscribed "Gurdwara" with arrows giving directions. I hope to go and have darshan some day in future.
