a certain type of superstitious fast done on the ninth day

please try to read the full shabad and you will understand the full meaning

Here is the original pankiti:

NAUMI, NAEM SACH JE KARAE||
KAAM KRODH TRISHNA UCHRAI||

These are the days according to the lunar calendar. Naumi (9th day), Ekaadasi (11th day) and the full moon days are very special for Hindus. Many Hindus keep Varat (fast) on Naumi i.e. the ninth day. Siri Guru jee is telling them that instead of keeping the fast of not eating that day, they should keep fast of not getting indulged in lust, anger and greediness and adopt Gurmat truth i.e. Naam.

Baani in Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee explains the real meanings behind 7 days of week, months of a year, and days to full moon; and what lessons we should learn from them.
