ever thought of visiting malaysia? then come now. yes, the month of august this year in malaysia promises to send you home with a whole lot of experiences you have never had before (and may never have in the future!). not only is the calendar full with a multitude of malaysian national (it is our independence month), cultural and social events, we also have a wide range of sikh events to keep us busy for the whole month. and what an array of activities.

national events:
1. shopping bonanza - malaysia is on sale!!! literally everything in the shops is on sale. this is the mega-sale month. no better time to shop in malaysia than now.

2. independence celebrations - in the USA you have july 4th. in malaysia we have AUGUST. yes, we celebrate our independence in 1957 and formation of malaysia in 1963 for a whole month. starting on august 17 and culminating on sept 16, with nationwide highlight on august 31. various exciting social, cultural and sporting activities are organised throughout the country.

sikh events:
1. august 14 - THE SUCCESS CHAIN motivational and prayer day for the gift of education and wisdom for all, especially the sikhs. this programme is being organised by all the Punjabi Education Centres in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur under the auspicies of the Punjabi Education Trust Malaysia. 4-7 pm at selayang gurdwara sahib. all welcome.

2. august 14 - SPIRITUAL HEALING session at mantin gurdwara sahib. 6 pm onwards. celebrating 400 th anniversary of parkaash diwas of guru granth sahib ji. organised jointly by Sikhs With a Mission and Mantin Gurdwara Sahib.

3. august 19 to 22 - GRAND CELEBRATIONS of the 400th anniversary at the international youth centre, Cheras. Spiritual, cultural, social and sporting activities lined up for the four days of grand celebrations. organised on behalf of the malaysian sikh community by the Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia with the cooperation of gurdwaras and societies. top kirtanias and kathakaars will lead the spiritual sessions.

4. august 21 - SIKH PARADE (Peace Celebrations), Bazaar, Open House and Awards at Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square). A whole day celebration with all malaysian communities (and tourists!!). abundance of punjabi/sikh food, games, punjabi goods bazaar, open house, awards ceremony, etc until 7 pm. then the arrival of guru granth sahib and punj pyare for the sikh parade from dataran merdeka to the tatt khalsa gurdwara sahib a few kilometers away. organised by Sant Attar Singh Brahm Vidya Niketan Foundation with the cooperation of gurdwaras and societies.

5. august 22 to 29 - MEGA CELEBRATIONS of the 400th anniversary at gurdwara sahib tatt khalsa, KL. one week of spiritual, social, cultural and sporting activities lined up for young and old. a different set of top kirtanias and kathakaars will lead the spiritual sessions here. organised by Niketan and Tatt Khalsa Gurdwara Sahib.

6. august 1 to 31 - LOCAL CELEBRATIONS in all gurdwaras throughout malaysia. all these programmes are going to be mega events in their own right with the top kirtanias and kathakaars expected to perform here as well. various competitions and activities are planned. visits to prisons, drug rehab centres, old folks homes, orphanages, drop in centers, hospitals, etc are on the cards.

malaysian sikhs are going to be spoilt for choice. how about joining us to enjoy these events and be mesmerised by malaysian hospitality, harmony and grace.

Detail Of Event (Just to Elobarate the 21st August celebration):

THE NIKETAN FOUNDATION ALONG WITH ALL THE GURDWARAS AND
INSTITUIONS IN MALAYSIA WOULD LIKE TO INVITE YOU TO THE NATIONAL
SIKH PARADE..............IN DATARAN MERDEKA........THE HEART OF KUALA
LUMPUR CITY...........

>This event will be the first time the SIKH IN MALAYSIA GO DOWN TO
DATARAN MERDEKA AND CELEBRATE A WONDERFUL EVENT WITH SRI GURU
GRANTH SAHIB JI.

Letme give you some basic details of the program.........

>It starts off on the 21st August morning( at around 9am) where the
Sikhs will have a BAZAAR and Carnival in Dataran Merdeka. This Bazaar and Carnival is open
to all the Malaysian people. The type of stuff that will be happening are Bazaar, Carnival , Magic
Show for the kids, Clown Show's and lotsa free balloons, special exhibition on SIKH Culture and
heritage, drawing competitions and lot's more activities................ The
carnival if for both children, teenagers and adults. Examples of carnival games are the Dunking
Game( you hit the target and someone drops into the water......hehehehehehe), bowling and soo
many more games for all.

All the games and activities will be free of charge..............so come down and play to your hearts
content.This will go on until around 4 pm.

After which, The Sikhs will Welcome some V.I.P's to officiate the SIKH
OPEN HOUSE AT DATARAM MERDEKA....... we the Sikhs will be sharing the concept of
LANGGAR with the rest of the Malaysians. Here, the Sikhs will serve all the Malaysian
people............ There gonna be lotsa good food going around......... a typical Daal Capati with
some delicious sambal with lot's of sweet's like jalebi, barfi, sakar paray, gulab jamun, balu
shai........and sooo much more. Also we will have free flow of Pakoray and samosay...not to
mention free flow of cola's and cold chilled Milo and of course the famous Sikh Chaa....soo get
your taste buds ready guys.............. There will also be a Gatka( sikh Martial Art)
demonstration by a group of Sikh from Canada.
Once the Open house is done..........then the real mega event for the
day starts........ the SIKH PARADE (Nagar Kirtan). At around 7 pm Guru Maharaj ji will land in
Dataran merdeka by Helicopter and will be ushered to the Main Float where he will sit on his
throne. While this is happening, There will be a choir leading the rest of the crowd in singing the
praises of Guru Maharaj ji....... There will be a shower of Flower petals on Guru
Maharaj Ji and the people at Dataran Merdeka from the Helicopter.

Once this is done, The Singh Sahib of Harmandar Sahib( Former Head
Granthi of Golden Temple) will honor all the Sikh Priests of Malaysia because thisdate also marks
the 400 years of the first Granthi sahib Ji being appointedb by Guru Arjan Dev Ji.....

Once done, there will be a string of Fireworks display to mark the
Beginning of the Sikh Parade(Nagar Kirtan). The nagar Kirtan will start
from Dataran Merdeka and will pass by Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman ( Jalan Chow kit) which
means that the Nagar Kirtan will be going against the traffic. The Nagar Kirtan will comprise of
the main float followed by the Kirtan float(this float is the float used in the movie Anna and the
King), followed by the 5 Pehraydar(Singh Guards) on horses and followed by floats and
contingents from all the Gurdwaras on Malaysia.The Nagar Kirtan will end at Gurdwara Sahib
Tatt Khalsa at around 10.30 pm. There the sangat will sing Guru Maharaj ji Praises for a while
and followed by the Ardaas marking the end of the Whole day's event.

The a above mentioned event will be on the 21st for August(Saturday). From the 22nd to the
29th of August, there will be daily kirtan, katha and lot's of workshops at Gurdwara Sahib Tatt
Khalsa. Please see the attachments for more details. The Ragi Singh's that will be attending the
event are Bhai Chamanjit singh( formally known as Bhai Chamanlal), Bhai Gurcharan Singh Rasia,
Bhai Amandeep singh Ji, Singh sahib Bhai Ram Singh Ji( Former Head Granthi of Harmandar
Sahib(Golden Temple)) and many more local and foreign Jatha's

Soo the event and just too big for you to miss............Get yourselves ready to experience a once
in a life time event. You will never know
if you will be able to see such a event ever again in Malaysia.
