Vahiguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vahiguru Ji Ki Fateh!

Sangat Ji, in the Baba Attar Singh (Mastuana) book, gursikh ji says that when doing ardaas in front of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, all the other 10 guru forms appear everytime and they 'stand on their toes (balls of their feet) and so that's why ardaas shouldn't be too long as not to pain their feet'.

1. Could any Gursikh's explain if and why guru's stand on their toes, and if this is necessary for the sangat to do also? Also some gursikhs have given instructions on how to stand when doing ardaas - by placing both feet right next to each other and toes facing forwards not outwards.

2. Could someone explain the correct way of in standing in ardaas (as a gursikh once said that putting feet shoulder width apart and toes pointing outwards was a sign of showing ahankaar towards guru ji ?

Waheguru ji ka khalsa
Waheguru ji ki fateh

silahiwala jio,

As far as for standing in the ardass, the way mentioned is the right and humble way towards JAHARA JAHOOR HAJARA HAJOOR Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee.

Now Ardass is longer and shorter depends upon on avastha of ardasia Singh and keertani mandal. Although there is a formal Ardass which most likely takes 3-4 minutes but as we said the avastha of an ardasia Singh is the key. The ardass of jeev atma (ardass generated from your inside) could take much longer some time even 10 times the formal ardass. In those ardass periods most sangat have the same tuning frequency as of ardasia Singh, no one noticed how long the ardass took. All they remember is that they talked to Guru Sahib by their thoughts through the rasna (tongue) of ardasia Singh. Further to note that the Sangat which sit 10-12 hour long in one sitting attains that high avastha in which one can easily stand regardless of age for longer period of ardass too because when ardass is going on in the same flow as the Gurbani kirtan went then no one gets tired. So most Sikh who enjoyed the Gurbani shower they enjoy the longer ardass too because they do not want to stop thanking Guru Sahib for blissful enjoyment they had. This is just our thought.

As Khalsa Spirit said, depends on your avastha at the time.
Baoo Mal Singh Ji used to do Ardas for 45 m inutes at stretch due to his bairaagmaee avasthaa at the time. After keertan I suppose.
