sikh history is proof of the word MATA JI being used exclusively with the Mata Sahibaans, or Mehls of Sikh Guru Sahibaans. Thus we have Mata Tripta Ji Mata Khivi Ji, Mata Ganga Ji, Mata Gujree Ji, Mata Sahib Kaur Ji....
Others like the sisters or daughters of Guru sahibs were not accorded this MATA JI Honorofic..they were called BIBI JI or BEBE JI...hence we have Guur nanak jis sister Bibi Nanaki Ji, daughter of Guru Amardass Ji Bibi Amro Ji....Bibi Bhani Ji
Even great Sikh Warrior woemen like Mai Bhag Kaur Ji...and numerous others are all callaed Bibi.
it was brought to my notice recently that the BIBI KAULAN that came to the Sharan of Guur Hargobind Ji Sahib and who has a Gurdwara established in her Yaadgaar..is beign bestowed the honorific MATA KAULLAN JI by those sewaks in charge of sewa at this Gurdwara. I think this is wrong...she should be called BIBI Kaullan and not Mata kaullan as per Sikh historical Traditions.
What do the Tapoban sangat think ?
