What makes a thing joothi? Can only the saliva make a thing joothi or things like urine etc can make an entity joothi too ?

I feel these are importan questions as suchamtayeee is extremely important in gursikhi jeevan.

It will be great if someone can answer this.

Jooth, as per my understanding, is an unseen impurity that is there in everyone, to some degree. Material dirt and jooth are not always the same, although, mostly if something is dirty, it's likely to be joothi too.

In Gurbani Bhagat Kabir jee has put it very beautifully that the whole world including your parents, relatives, food, clothes etc. are joothay and the only way this jooth gets removed is if one gets "saache pari vichaara" i.e. ones who get Naam roopi Saachi Vichaara.

I can only tell you what I understand. I believe that if one hands gets jootha, the whole body does not get joothi but there are exceptions to this rule. Normally, if one touches an extremely dirty thing human excretion, then the whole body is joothi for the purpose of doing sewa in Langar or raul sewa of Siri Akhand Paath Sahib.

It depends on what you have got jooth from. Normally soap, sand, mittee etc along with water is okay to remove this jooth.

I myself am not a langar sewadaar but here are some of the points (I learned in sangat) to note when doing langar sewa:

1) One must have done Gurmat Ishnaan (full keshi and body inshnaan while reciting Baani or Gurmantra)

2) Fresh clean clothes (Gurmukhi baana) should be worn. Ideally, Singhs should remove pajaami while doing langar sewa. Bibiyaan are exempted from removing pajaami but they must be wearing clean pajaami that has not touched shoes.

3) If you touch the handle of door, or counter that has not been done sudhaayee (cleaned) then one should wash hands before touching food or doing sewa of cooking.

4) Many Gursikhs are seen using paper napkins while preparing langar. This is unacceptable and one should use only cloth for this purpose.

5) Only Gurbani paath or Naam Simran should be done while preparing langar. Having said that, there is nothing wrong in doing cooking related terse talk.

6) Tap or tootee should be done sudhaayee before using it. This is the rule that all Singhs following.

7) If one has to go jangal-paani then one must take Gurmat ishnaan. If one sleeps then too one should do Gurmat ishnaan.

These are some of the points I could remember.
